This offering is for 1 of our inert US Military 3 inch Navy Wooden Training Rounds. Factory made items that date from WW2, and like the ones pictured, all are in nice looking condition. Fashioned after the original ordnance in size and weigh but made of laminated wood with steel base and nose band, presumably weighted with a lead core to obtain the 24 pound total.
Used in training simulations for loading and handling practice. 35 inches in length and pictured next to a Reising Model 60 for size comparison, head stamp is
1944 3" Dummy Cartridge Mk6 50 Cal.
For use in the 3″/50 caliber gun (spoken "three-inch-fifty-caliber") in United States naval gun terminology indicates the gun fired a projectile 3 inches (76mm) in diameter, and the barrel was 50 calibers long (barrel length is 3in × 50 = 150in or 3.8m). Different guns (identified by Mark numbers) of this caliber were used by the US Navy.
Several available. *** Heavy item at 24 pounds, ***
