Product Details

Antique. This offering is for the pictured German Gew 88 1888 Commission Rifle. In good looking used condition and maker marked from the Danzig Arsenals in 1894. Germany first smokeless powder service rifle that served from 1888 thru WW1.

Mostly matching serial numbers, mis matched bolt head, band and a few small parts. Metal finish is blued with average wear, correct brite bolt and receiver, original bolt head and cleaning rod are present. Bolt action repeater appears mechanically fine.

Sound hard wood stock, handsome color tone.

Originally chambered for the M88 cartridge, the receiver is now "S" marked indicating use "Patrone S" type ammunition 7.92x57. with the predecessor to the 8mm Mauser. bore is brite with good+ rifle, couple of frost spots.

Makes a fine rifle for the military collector.

** Safety statement. Although chambered in 7.92x57 Patrone S, this is not 7.92 Patrone s.S (heavy ball) Gunsmiths and shooters for years have discourages shooting modern ammunition in these old rifles.
