This offering is for the pictured British Pattern 1842 Infantry Socket Bayonet. In good looking condition and made for use on the Enfield pattern 1842 Muskets. Produce for the Board of Ordnance by George Salter & Co and featured the new Lovel catch on the rear.
These saw use across the British Empire, into Crimea during that time and later exported to the States during the US Civil War.
British war department cypher marked on the blade flat and unit or rack numbered on the socket. This is the infantry version with the larger 17.25 inch blade length, 3 inch socket.
Metal finish is now a plumb patina with light frost.
No scabbard. Makes a fine item for the military collector. Just this 1 available.
