Item #3993 This offering is for the pictured US Model 1860 Naval Cutlass. Civil war era item maker marked from the Ames Manufacturing Co. in Chicopee Mass, dated 1862 with US Naval markings on the riccaso.

A very popular cutlass, a design taken from the Franch M1833, but lighter.
This government naval boarding cutlass would have been carried by U.S. Navy seamen aboard ship during the Civil War. 32 inches in overall length with a 26 inch blade,1¼” wide at the riccaso and has a flat back with a single, wide, fuller.

This one is missing the brass cup knuckle guard, and the wire wrapped leather grip covering, showing only the ribbed hardwood core. Missing the leather scabbard, most did not survive.

Makes a fine item for the military collector.
