Item #4056 This offering is for the pictured US Navy WW2 3 inch/50 Brass Cannon Casing, Salute. In good looking used condition.
Well marked on the base USN and dated 1945, 18 inches in length with stains, uniquely for "saluting". The side of the case is stenciled "blank" so used for training, signaling or salutes.
For use in the 3″/50 caliber gun (spoken "three-inch-fifty-caliber") in United States naval gun terminology indicates the gun fired a projectile 3 inches (76mm) in diameter, and the barrel was 50 calibers long (barrel length is 3in × 50 = 150in or 3.8m). Different guns (identified by Mark numbers) of this caliber were used by the US Navy.
