This offering is for the pictured American Colonial Blacksmith Made Socket Bayonet. In good looking condition considering its mid to late 1700's era production.
Similar to other American blacksmith made bayonets, it is fashioned loosely after European examples from England and France. Non-standard features, 20 inches in overall length with 16 inch blade and 3 inch un-reinforced socket with a 7/8 inside diameter.
Triangular blade profile with a flat on one side, 1 1/16 inches at the widest. Mounting slot is on the reverse side than what was common. The blade is attached to the socket with a weld cup mount.
Unmarked with plumb patina and rust as pictured.
Early American bayonet worthy of more research.
