Item #4325 This offering is for the pictured 19th Century Bowie Knife. Original item in good looking used condition. Maker marked from G Wostenholm Son Washington Works Sheffield England.
Sheffield Bowie knives were popular with Americans going west in the 1840 thru 1890's.
This one is 14.75 inches in overall length with a 9.75 inch blade. Sturdy knife steel is nearly .25 inches wide near the riccaso. Blade metal shows sharpening and frost and stains in areas. Nickle silver cross guard with stag horn grips.
Marked I*XL on the riccaso (but not well photographed). Sheath is a modern hand made replacement in the style of the originals, nickle silver mounts and a stitched leather body.
Makes a fine knife for the Bowie Collector. |
