Product Details

This offering is for the pictured German WW1 Kar 98az Mauser. This model is the short rifle issued to Cavalry, Assault Troops and other special purpose troops needing a handier weapon. Maker marked from the Erfurt Arsenals and dated 1918 it is also dated 1920 for the post war government inventory*

Serial numbers no longer match. Features a small ring receiver with a turned down bolt, metal finish is worn blue turning a plumb patina. Unique stacking hook on the underside of the muzzle area Bolt action repeater appears mechanically fine.

This has a hardwood stock with added rack number and conscript carving, possible 1930's Spanish Civil War service. Crack visible at the right recoil lug.

Chambered in 8mm Mauser the bore is poor, faint rifling with darker rougher grooves. Not import marked.

A good rifle for the military collector.

*1920 date: in an effort to comply with the disarmament portion of the Versailles Treaty, the German government marked all of the allowed 100,000 rifles with the "1920 property mark". This allowed officials to turn in for destruction the excess arms as well as use a "buy back" program to purchase WW1 weapons from the hands of civilians. At the time of the Armistice Germany likely controlled up to 6,000,000 rifles and many went home with soldiers......
